Network for Research in Education and Conflict (NREC)
NREC is a mult-iinstitutional network of academics and practitioners in the field of education, conflict and international development. Some of the research areas of NREC's members are but not limited to education, peacebuilding, gender analysis, ethnicity, citizenship, politics, international and comparative education and social policy.
Education and conflict is an emerging research field particularly addressing the issues of education in emergencies. Even though there is a principal assumption that education can mitigate conflict by strengthening common values and contributing to social cohesion, the 'negative face' of education in playing a complicit role in conflict has been also realised in recent analyses of interactions between education and conflict. In order to enhance the positive role of education in addressing social injustices and building peace, it is important to interrogate the interconnection between education and conflict more critically. Hence, education and conflict research at LJMU is inspired by some of the basic assumptions about education and conflict
